As many of you embark on the NaNoWriMo adventure, I’m on day 60 of my own writing project. And this month marks the end of notes taking and starting writing the first draft. I’m not giving myself a 50k words challenge in a month, but I’m definitely curious how far I’ll come.
I have 40 days more to go to finish my 100 days challenge and I’m not expecting a finished draft by then, but I’m sure already happy that I started it at all. I would not be where I am had I not pushed myself to write everyday, to put my thoughts and my memories down on paper.
I’m moving from my notebook to the keyboard for writing the first draft, but first I’m looking through the notes to find out what is this all about, what is the theme, where am I going with it.
I’m exited and a little bit scared. I’m still not sure if I want to write this book in English or in Dutch, and I need to decide soon as it will be a very different book, depending on the language.
The writing projects like NaNoWriMo or 100 days of writing everyday are an amazing way to get this idea, that is sitting in your head, out on the paper (or screen) and see where it will take you.
My advice? Just do it. Don’t overthink it, don’t try to make it great. Just write, every single day. Be there for the story, be there for yourself. Just keep writing down those words.
My writing also started from a few days in raw. Now I’m almost 300 days in stake. Writing every day makes it easy and fast.
