In the silence something shifted. I had left a certain kind of anxiety behind, back in the city. The urban life I had loved for so long – the constant motion, the sense that there was always something exiting happening somewhere – that life had turned on me.– Dani Shapiro
I can’t stop thinking about this quote. This is what happened to me too. I believe that moving to the countryside has made me calmer. Leaving the city life helped me to find the space and quiet to do what I always wanted to do.
I always was a city girl. Born and raised in Warsaw, I always thought that city life was the best there was. Until I started escaping it as often as possible and realised that it wasn’t my type of life anymore. That’s when the dream of moving to the countryside was born. After many holidays spent in small villages, in the middle of nowhere, during which I was hoping we didn’t have to go back.
But there were our jobs, and other things, that kept us there. But at some point we realised that we should find a place to live we’re going to love and the work and all other things will follow.
I wish I could tell you that after we moved everything fell into place immediately, but it’s not a fairy tale. I am happier, we are happier, but we still have a long way to go to have our lives exactly how we want them to be. But that’s fine. Everything takes time and I believe that as long as we keep working on it, we’ll get there.
I’ve made a good start. I’m writing more than ever before. Everyday I’m getting closer to where I want to be. Small steps and all that. I’ll get there, because I’m not planning on giving up on this dream life of mine just yet.
What do you prefer? City or countryside?
